Weekends in the summer call for one thing...bottomless brunch with your girlfriends! Not to worry—even though you’ve committed to following a healthy and balanced diet doesn’t mean you have to miss out on your favorite social events. Here are some delicious and common brunch staples that will keep you on track with your nutrition goals!
Avocado toast. You can’t be a true brunch fan without trying avocado toast. And the good news is, it can be totally nutritious too! Check to see if it’s made with a whole-grain ezekiel bread (or if you can request it!), and you’re in even better shape. We are huge fans of the benefits of avocado, and often this dish is topped with other fruits and veggies like tomatoes or radishes. Score!
Omelets. Omelets are typically a great brunch choice because you can load them with veggies. We recommend any type of “garden omelet” on the menu, or you can always request to make your own! Just try to keep away from anything packed with too many meats (bacon, sausage, etc.) and not enough veggies to balance it out.
Huevos Rancheros. As far as egg dishes go, huevos rancheros beats out eggs benedict or other heavy cream-based dishes in terms of nutrition value. Bonus if you swap out the refried beans for black beans!
Smoothie Bowls. There are dozens of ways to order an acai or smoothie bowl at brunch, and we always love to have them as an option! Just make sure you don’t go too crazy with the granola or other sugar-loaded toppings. The more you keep it to fresh, whole ingredients, the better!Modify any meal! We truly believe you shouldn’t deprive yourself of any foods that you love. If you are craving a pancake, get the pancakes! The great thing is, you can modify anything you love to be a little bit healthier for you, like swapping out the butter and syrup toppings for fresh fruit or honey. Figure out what works for your diet, and don’t feel guilt about anything you order!
